Wy'East mountain academy had a number of extremely accomplished staff (in action sports and life) relative to the small student population.

The best thing that happened at boarding school was the people that I met. Staff and students alike. Because of the intimate nature of the academy, you recognized staff as individuals instead of just people. There was a lot of diversity at the time I was there and I felt that benefited me greatly and helped broaden my worldview.

Nothing, I was exactly where I wanted to be. Advice would be if you don't have a good reason to go, don't! I saw too many examples of parents who wanted their kids at school more than they did, and it ended in disaster for them and for the school.

The people and access to facilities.

If you love action sports culture, it is the funnest place on earth! If you don't, there is so much to do and learn! When you invest yourself in a niche culture like action sports, it's a great vehicle to learn life's lessons.

The academics required a lot of will-power. The entire curriculum was online, so it was sort of a go-at-your-own-pace atmosphere. I felt the best learning opportunities always happened outside of the classroom. That's part of the reason I attended Wy-East. I liked the academics because they worked in a way that allowed us to experience other aspects of life that we otherwise would not have. The tough part was that you were accountable to yourself (mostly). So It's very easy to slack off if you aren't careful.

It had everything available to you to be world class in free skiing or snowboarding. The opportunities I was afforded during my time there, I believe that anyone else with the same opportunities could succeed. You just have to take advantage of it.

One thing Wy'East did a good job of was catering to a more creative side of the students with video production, photos, etc. It's a huge part o the action sports culture. I never was really into it but it was a very encouraging environment to surround those art forms in general.

We were always encouraged to go to the local highschool football games. I always thought that was cool and funny at the same time. We stuck out like sore thumbs and I don't think half of us could actually throw a ball. I really liked the effort on the academy's part to get us off campus and be "normal" kids.

I loved rooming with my best friends. I wasn't a fan of being isolated from the other students in separate cabins. It was lonely at times and there often wasn't a convenient common area to congregate.

Dining was average. Mostly cafeteria style. I loved it though because I always ate a ton of food, as did my classmates. We were always actively skating, bouncing on the trampoline, biking, etc. There was always tons of protein and carbs at our disposal to devour.

We were pretty isolated in the middle of the woods. Wy'East did make a concerted effort to get us into town frequently, which I thought was great. I did like the privacy.

Social life was ok. I think there could have been more effort put into encouraging relationship building among the students.
