About the Author:

Years Attended 51³Ô¹ÏÍø School:
2025-2026
Sports and Activities:
There are two activities (student council positions) I have done that I am very proud of:I have run a school store and fundraised for the school's prom. The way to raise the money is to do a large amount of promotion around the school to get students, faculty members, and even parents to buy some products from the school store or some students' works, like artworks.I have also managed the residential area of the school, including the dorms and bathrooms. I helped the residential faculty members to ensure that students are doing well in their everyday lives. I also managed eight students who are responsible for a dorm and a bathroom. Their main jobs are to ensure students are doing well in the dorms and that the bathrooms are clean.Throughout these two positions, a heavy amount of practical work is crucial. They are important to me because I am going to work in the future. While learning tools and academics are important, the practical program at Delphian has helped me become a more successful person.

Reflections and Advice:

1.) What do you think makes your school unique relative to other boarding schools?
The two most unique aspects of Delphian are the learning environment and the program. The learning environment at Delphian is that it does not offer lecture-based classes. Everyone learns things on their own. We have a course that teaches you how to study on your own. That course will help you succeed in studying whatever you would like. The teachers will also assist you with anything you don't understand. What makes the Delphian program unique is the study method mentioned above, the literature program, and the practical program. There are many books you will read at Delphian. The books are chosen to be read for a reason. I got many things out of them, including books about life, philosophy, and any other invaluable lessons -- it is more than just reading and understanding a book. It is more about getting invaluable lessons out of a book. The unique part of the practical program is that it requires you to apply the tools you have learned from the academic program. You will have a student council position over a particular area of the school, including the school store, residential life, arts, and more. These help you gain a lot of practical skills and get prepared for college and work in the future. These unique aspects of Delphian have made a difference in me today.
2.) What was the best thing that happened to you in boarding school?
I have become a more independent person who is able to decide what I want to do in my life. Before coming to Delphi, I let others decide what to do about things, and I usually do not care what a decision will lead to. After I came to Delphi, I realized that being able to decide things for myself is very important.
3.) What might you have done differently during your boarding school experience?
Delphian helps me manage my time and organize myself better. My advice for kids going to a boarding school or Delphian is that keeping on top of their schedule and organizing themselves better are two of the keys to becoming successful.
4.) What did you like most about your school?
I have become a different person compared to five years ago when I came here.
5.) Do you have any final words of wisdom for visiting or incoming students to your school?
The first thing they must do is to appreciate the beauty of the school. The school is very beautiful. This is a place where they will make themselves different.

Academics:

1.) Describe the academics at your school - what did you like most about it?
My favorite part of the academics at Delphian is that students are not driven to learn or being left out on a part of their academics they don't understand. They are on their own pace to learn, and students are to understand everything they have studied.Everyone has their own program to work on, rather than a class of people having to move on the same pace. For literature, math, science, geography, and more subjects, students will get a learning guide to learn everything. The learning guide consists of different steps that they need to learn. When students complete a step, they put the initials on the side of the learning guide to show that this is done. When students finish a course, their teacher will check to see whether students have completed all the steps on the learning guide and to make sure that students have understood the course. Then students will see the examiner for the course. If students get some spots wrong, there won't be punishment for them. The examiner will help students understand the part he/she doesn't understand or have students restudy that part of the course again. The purpose of the exam here is not to get a grade or to pass it. It is more about getting students to understand everything they have learned, while getting a grade and passing are also important. The academics at Delphian helped me develop my ability to study effectively and to understand things more deeply.

Athletics:

1.) Describe the athletics at your school - what did you like most about it?
The athletics program at Delphian contains different sports teams, including cross country, Track & Field, volleyball, basketball, and soccer. I participated in cross country and Track & Field throughout my five years at Delphi. I enjoy running. My favorite part about the athletic team at Delphian is that everyone on the team has great sportsmanship and supports each other to achieve the same goals they have set for themselves. I will miss running and being part of the Track & Field and cross-country teams.

Art, Music, and Theatre:

1.) Describe the arts program at your school - what did you like most about it?
The arts program at Delphian contains photography, cinematography, choir, and play. I have done performing arts for five years (choir). I enjoyed singing with a group of people. Choir will be one of the most unforgettable experiences at Delphian.

Extracurricular Opportunities:

1.) Describe the extracurriculars offered at your school - what did you like most about it?
My favorite aspect of the extracurricular activities at school is discovering my favorite hobbies. My hobbies are singing, running, and photography. When I just started my hobbies at Delphi, I didn’t know what to do until now. I had gained greater skills in these.

Dorm Life:

1.) Describe the dorm life in your school - what did you like most about it?
What is unique about the dorm life at Delphian is that students will, every once in a while, get a chance to participate in some activities. They will do a skit or gather together to compete in some games over the weekends.

Dining:

1.) Describe the dining arrangements at your school.
Delphian has a buffet-style cafeteria. The cafeteria will, every once in a while, provide different styles of food, including Mexican, Chinese, and Italian. Desserts are offered on Fridays. I like the inclusivity of the food, especially since Delphiain is an international school.

Social and Town Life:

1.) Describe the school's town and surrounding area.
Delphian is located in Sheridan, Oregon, which is about an hour and thirty minutes away from Portland by car. Although commuting is not very convenient, I like that the area around the school is quiet, peaceful, and pleasant for studying. The surroundings feel calm, which helps me focus better on my work. There is also a trail on the school property where people can walk and hike, which makes the environment even more enjoyable. Nearby McMinnville is where people can get groceries and food. What I like most about the area is that it gives me a quiet place to study while still having a town close enough for basic needs.
2.) Describe the social life at your school - what did you like most about it?
Everyone at Delphian is very enthusiastic and extroverted. My favorite part is that students are active and willing to talk to people. No students are being left out.
